WEP 0077: An Interview with Julie Wilcot

Julie Willcott is an EdTech Consultant and Apple Distinguished Educator.  She works as an advocate for innovative learning with an emphasis on STEAM (science-technology-engineering-art-math).  As a high school science teacher, Julie implemented one of the nation’s first 1:1 iPad programs and developed multiple open educational resources on iTunes U and iBooks.  Her current consulting work includes serving as a Professional Development Specialist and Subject Matter Expert for zSpace, a provider of immersive virtual reality technology.  In addition, Julie works as a Social Media Manager for EdSurge promoting resources on how and when to use technology in K-20 education.  Julie presents at national and international conferences and serves as an advisory board member for SXSWedu.

She now works as a full-time partner in Dave Burgess Consulting, Inc. and is the co-author of P is for PIRATE: Inspirational ABC’s for Educators.

Beth Houf

Beth is passionate about developing schools that encourage high levels of learning and empowerment for all… schools where students and staff are running to get in, not out! To do so, Beth seeks out fun and meaningful ways to interact with students and teachers so they are excited about coming to school. Wearing costumes, singing karaoke, or breaking out some original dance moves as she enthusiastically greets students each morning, or providing innovative  learning time and celebrations for her staff so they feel rejuvenated and excited about teaching is common practice for Beth.

Beth Houf is a middle school principal in central Missouri. She also serves as a facilitator for the DESE Leadership Academy, providing monthly training to state educational leaders. She has spoken at the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Conference, the Association for Middle Level Education National Conference and many state and local educational venues. She is also active in her local, state and national elementary principal associations. Beth has also been a guest lecturer at William Woods University, Westminster University and the University of Missouri. Beth was named a Missouri Exemplary New Principal in 2011 and the Missouri National Distinguished Principal for 2016.

In this episode of the Wired Educator Podcast, Kelly interviews Belgium educator, Kurt Klynen.

Kurt Klynen is an Apple Distinguished Educator with over sixteen years teaching ages 2 to 62 and older in a primary and secondary school in Belgium. He is an ad vacate, author, ambassador and advisor in educational curriculum design and instruction. He founded his own educational start-up, ICT Atelier in 2009 with one primary mission: hands-on, inspiring workshops on the integration of technology in education. He currently leads of 25 superstar educators who spread this vision all over Europe. He serves as an advisor for Apple Distinguished Educators EMEIA region, and as an advisor for both Book Widgets and Book Creator.

Having worked with educators and students around the world, Kurt is truly an international educator. Leaning heavily on Kurt’s experiences in many countries, Kelly interviews Kurt about the differences in education around the world and what best practices and theories have emerged. Kurt also shares his passion for his current ADE project, The Joy of Professional Learning.

Kurt has an incredible eye for design, and he is just a brilliant educator. He is very inspiring to talk with, and I am looking forward to collaborating with him in some way in the future.

An Interview with Jon Harper, the Host of the Educational Podcast, My Bad!

Kelly interviews teacher, assistant principal, and fellow educational podcaster, Jon Harper. Jon is the host of the popular educational podcast, “My Bad!”

Jon is currently the assistant principal at Sandy Hill Elementary School in Cambridge, Maryland. This is his 7th year serving as an assistant principal at the elementary level. Prior to becoming an administrator he served as a Math Coach and an elementary school teacher. During his ten years as a classroom teacher he taught first, second, fourth and fifth grades. During his sixth year teaching he earned Nationally Board Certification, which he held for ten years. For seven years he ran a Young Gentleman’s Cub that was aimed at helping young men reach their full potential.

Jon received a B.A. from Furman University while majoring in Philosophy. He later went on to earn his B.S from Salisbury University while majoring in Elementary Education. Jon was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to student teach in New Zealand. He eventually received his M.A. degree from Salisbury University in Public School Administration.

Jon lives in Cambridge, Maryland with his amazing wife and two awesome children.

An Interview with Anthony Johnson


Season 2 of The Wired Educator Podcast begins with an amazing interview with Apple Distinguished Educator, Anthony Johnson. Anthony is a passionate educator and an inspiration to students and teachers alike. I’m so excited for you to hear Anthony’s story and learn what he is doing differently in and outside his classroom. This is an amazing interview!

Anthony lives in Salisbury, NC with his wife of twenty years and their three daughters.

In his school years, Anthony was a terrible student and a teacher’s nightmare who stayed in trouble. During that time, he failed 4th, 7th, 8th and 9th grades before dropping out of high school at the age of 16. Anthony received his G.E.D. and moved from job to job for nearly a decade. He later enrolled at Livingstone College and graduated in 4 years with a degree in Elementary Education. His goal is to teach with enthusiasm and give his students a different experience from his own in grade school. Teaching is his passion and his desire to help young people succeed has afforded Anthony the opportunity to travel the world as an educator. He has presented and given speeches all over the country.

Anthony currently teaches 4th/5th grade Science and Social Studies at Isenberg Elementary School in Salisbury, North Carolina.
