Amanda is the author of several books including: Teachingland: A Teachers Survival Guide to the Classroom Apocalypse and MarkerTown.

Amanda Fox, is an educator, author, and technology enthusiast currently living in Louisville, Kentucky. She is the Director of Education for QuiverVision, and the founder of Metainkbooks, a publishing company that leverages augmented reality to improve literacy. She has taught English Language Arts, Social Studies, Film, Journalism, and enjoys writing, illustrating, and cooking in her free time. Recipient of the 2016 ISTE Emerging Leader Award, recognized as a PBS Digital innovator for her initiatives in enhancing student learning with technology, Fox has also served as President of the Young Educator Network for ISTE, and received the President’s Volunteer Award in 2018. She is the author of Teachingland: A Teacher’s Survival Guide to the Classroom Apocalypse, Zom-Be A Design Thinker,  Markertown, and The Canva Classroom. An Interview with Jennifer Gonzalez

In this episode, I interview Jennifer Gonzalez, the Editor in Chief, Founder, and Host of Cult of Pedagogy. Cult of Pedagogy is one of the most respected and followed educational resources for teachers available. Cult of Pedagogy is more than just the amazingly well written and applicable posts on her blog, it’s more than her incredible podcast; Cult of pedagogy provides books, videos and other amazing resources to help teachers around the globe, but most importantly it is a community for teachers who love teaching and want to become their best.

Jennifer and I have an amazing conversation about how Cult of Pedagogy came to be, how it has been helping teachers during this pandemic, and we look ahead at the future of education. Jennifer is absolutely brilliant, and we have a lot of fun. Buckle-up.

Jennifer Gonzalez taught middle school language arts for seven years. Half that time was spent in the greater D.C. area, the other half in southcentral Kentucky. She earned National Board Certification in 2004. Then, after having her first child, sheleft teaching to be a stay-at-home mom.

In 2008, She was hired by a local university to teach pre-service teachers. This work gave her new passion for preparing and supporting educators. When Jennifer was in the classroom, shefelt alone in her nerdiness. The teachers’ lounge was never a safe place for her emotionally or intellectually, and finding others to share her real thoughts and feelings with took a lot of work. She learned to stifle the urge to gush about some new strategy She was planning to try or to open up about a struggle She was having with her students. She came to expect that her genuine questions would be met with sarcasm.

With the creation of her site Cult of pedagogy, She hopes to create what shedid not have herself: a vibrant, encouraging, stimulating community of teachers, supporting each other toward excellence. She believes if we can reach across the limits of geography and find each other, there’s no limit to the amazing things we can accomplish.

In this 150th Episode of The Wired Educator Podcast I share the Top Twenty Things I Have Learned Publishing 150 Podcast Episodes and Interviewing Amazing Educators!

I am so happy I started the Wired Educator Podcast, and it is amazing to me to see it now at 150 episodes. I have no intention of stopping now. In fact, I am looking to growing the podcast in new ways.

I am thankful that you listen to the show, level-up each week, and make a positive impact in the lives of students. You are awesome, and I am not embarrassed to tell you that every week.

I have learned a lot from publishing 150 episodes and interviewing educators from all over the world. I wanted to share a condensed list of what I feel my guests have in common, and what they do that makes them stand out.

As I share what I have learned, I’ll bet many will resonate with you. I’ll bet you see yourself in a lot of these amazing qualities. I believe this because you are taking time to level-up. There are many commonalities in success. Still, I hope there are many that challenge you to grow and improve as they did me.

WEP 124: Eduprotocol, an Interview with Jon Corippo

Jon Corippo describes himself as a “formerly disgruntled student.” He made it almost all the way through school at a 2.9 GPA. His final three semesters in Advertising changed everything, though: Advertising classes were project based. Jon’s grades shot to nearly 4.0. Also while at Fresno State, Jon served as a graduate assistant football coach, learning about leadership and teaching at the feet of Jim Sweeney. Jon graduated college with no intention of teaching.

After about 7 years in non-educational jobs, Jon’s amazing wife persuaded him to try his hand in education: he was hooked after just two days as a long-term sub on an emergency credential.

About 20 years later, Jon had served a decade at the K-8 level, opened a 1-1, PBL, Google-based high school, served in two county offices, including as an Assistant Superintendent and It Director. Jon has been recognized a County Teacher of the Year, a 20 to Watch Educator by the NSBA, and was a finalist in the EdTech Digest Awards. Jon also holds the Apple Distinguished Educator, Google Certified Innovator, and Microsoft Innovative Educator badges.

Jon is very proud of his work with CUE, where he currently serves as the Executive Director. His work with CUE includes creating the CUE Rock Star concept of Professional Development, with a focus on hands-on learning and getting teachers connected via social media. Cue Rock Star Camps now include Admin, TOSA, Teacher and Specialized Editions for core areas. Jon has lead the development of the very successful CUE Launch program, and the well received CUE BOLD Symposium. Under Jon’s leadership, CUE professional learning has trained over 30,000 educators in only two years.

Jon lives in Coarsegold, California, near Yosemite, with his wife (a very successful educator), three children and a random number of free-range chickens.
Eduprotocols – Book 2 will be adding a dozen new Eduprotocols to the existing sixteen Eduprotocols in original book. We are also beginning an Eduprotocols Podcast that will feature an educators who are actively using an Eduprotocol in their classroom.

In this episode of The Wired Educator Podcast, Kelly interviews Dr. Jo Boaler about her amazing book Mathematical Mindsets: Unleashing Students’ Potential Through Creative Math, Inspiring Messages, and Innovative Teaching.

Dr Jo Boaler is a Professor of Mathematics Education at Stanford University and co-founder of www.youcubed.org. Formerly the Marie Curie Professor of Mathematics Education for England, a mathematics teacher in London comprehensive schools and a researcher at King’s College, London. She is the author of eight books including What’s Math Got To Do With It? (2015) and Mathematical Mindsets (2016). She is the recipient of the NCSM award for equity, the author of the first MOOC on mathematics learning for teachers and parents, a White House presenter and an advisor to the PISA team at the OECD.
