This is the Wired Educator Podcast episode 233, my interview with Kristen Brooks. Kristin is an Apple Distinguished Educator and an education leader that’s making a difference in the lives of others. She helps me and my district with adding creation to our learning, especially with iPads. I’m excited to share her story and message with you and the impact that she’s making around the world. Kristen Brooks is an amazing force for all things good in education. She is an innovator. She is a leader. She is an inspiration to all. Kristen is an Apple Distingued educator of whom I have traveled the world with at global ADE Institutes, and I follow her on social media making an impact everywhere with her amazing knowledge and resources. (She sent me some amazing resources of hers to include in the show notes, so check the out. )

She has held numerous positions in the Cherokee County School District from Elementary Tech Lab & iPad Lab Creator to Instructional Technology Specialist & Tech Coach. She is a veteran teacher of 28 years with the last 18 years exclusively in Educational Technology. She keeps herself busy as a Technology Teacher encouraging students to regularly create more than they consume with their devices and as an Educational Technology Consultant supporting learners of all ages by helping them effectively use technology for learning and creating. This can include training teachers on how to integrate technology into their curriculum, designing and implementing technology-based learning programs, and providing support and resources for students and educators.

Zac Bauermaster is an educational leader and author passionate about people. Zac’s mission field is public education. One of his main tag lines is, “It’s all about people.” His leadership style exemplifies a people-first approach as he seeks to glorify God in all he does. Zac has gained humble confidence through his daily pattern of prayer and reading scripture that he aims to share with others to advance God’s kingdom. Zac released a devotional leadership book in July of 2022 titled, Leading with a Humble Heart: A 40 Day Devotional for Leaders. 

Zac currently serves as principal at Kissel Hill Elementary School, located in the Warwick School District in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Zac has the tremendous opportunity to lead teachers, support staff, families, and most importantly, the next generation daily. His greatest joy in education is seeing adults leverage their God-given talents and abilities through inspiring kids to find and use their gifts. Before becoming a principal, Zac served public education in various K-12 roles such as assistant principal, administrator of online learning, teacher, and coach. These experiences have grown Zac’s sphere of influence and allowed him the opportunity to develop and maintain lifelong relationships.

Zac received his undergraduate degree from Millersville University in secondary education and completed his Master’s Degree in Educational Technology from Pennsylvania State University. Zac returned to Penn State, where he earned his Principal Certification. Most recently, Zac earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Superintendent Letter of Eligibility from Drexel University. He is a lifelong learner, always looking to learn and grow. His family jokes that he went to school in Kindergarten and hasn’t ever stopped.

Zac continues to grow his leadership influence and share encouragement and positivity, along with the good news of Christ through various social media platforms, magazine publications, and speaking events.

Most importantly, Zac is a husband to his wife Carly, and father to three young kids, Olivia, Eliot, and Isaac. Zac is a firm believer in leading his family first. The family resides in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Julie Schmidt Hasson, Ed.D. is a professor in the Reich College of Education at Appalachian State University. Julie’s research on the impact of a teacher is the topic of a TEDx talk and is the focus of her engaging professional development programs. She founded the Chalk and Chances project, a vehicle for elevating and celebrating teachers, in 2017. Julie’s latest book, Safe, Seen, and Stretched in the Classroom was released in November 2021.

Cult of Pedagogy is more than just the amazingly well written and applicable posts on her blog, it’s more than her incredible podcast; Cult of pedagogy provides books, videos and other amazing resources to help teachers around the globe, but most importantly it is a community for teachers who love teaching and want to become their best.

Jennifer and I have an amazing conversation about how Cult of Pedagogy came to be, how it has been helping teachers during this pandemic, and we look ahead at the future of education. Jennifer is absolutely brilliant, and we have a lot of fun. Buckle-up.

Jennifer Gonzalez taught middle school language arts for seven years. Half that time was spent in the greater D.C. area, the other half in southcentral Kentucky. She earned National Board Certification in 2004. Then, after having her first child, sheleft teaching to be a stay-at-home mom.

In 2008, She was hired by a local university to teach pre-service teachers. This work gave her new passion for preparing and supporting educators. When Jennifer was in the classroom, shefelt alone in her nerdiness. The teachers’ lounge was never a safe place for her emotionally or intellectually, and finding others to share her real thoughts and feelings with took a lot of work. She learned to stifle the urge to gush about some new strategy She was planning to try or to open up about a struggle She was having with her students. She came to expect that her genuine questions would be met with sarcasm.

With the creation of her site Cult of pedagogy, She hopes to create what shedid not have herself: a vibrant, encouraging, stimulating community of teachers, supporting each other toward excellence. She believes if we can reach across the limits of geography and find each other, there’s no limit to the amazing things we can accomplish.

Dissatisfied with the quality of teacher training that he was receiving, Stephen moved back to the UK in 1997 and founded Osiris Educational with the 30-year vision of improving the life chances of children across the world. 

Osiris had humble beginnings, with Stephen and his partner Brenda developing and delivering their own training, based off their own expertise at quality provision. Over the years, Osiris quickly grew to become the nation’s leading independent provider of teacher training, with the world’s greatest educationalists in collaboration.

In her first months as a superintendent, Jill faced financial crisis along with many other challenges that leadership brings. In 2015, her school board was named a TASA Honor Board as one of the top 5 school boards in the state and one of her campuses was named a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School. Jill is the Chair of the Future-Ready Superintendent Leadership Network (FRSLN) Design Team through the Texas Association of school Administrators (TASA) where innovative leaders from across the state gather to learn, share and grow together.

Jill has a passion for helping others reach their goals and is the leader of TASA’s Aspiring Superintendent Academy, and a frequent speaker at Texas’ First-Time Superintendent Academy as well as other leadership and education conferences. Her writing can be found on her website, jillmsiler.com where the initial blog inspiring her book, Thrive Through the Five was featured in the November 2019 edition of AASA School Administrator, the national school leadership organization’s publication.

Jill and her husband, William, have been married for 20 years and have two children: Caitlyn who is 15 years old and in 10th grade and Caleb who is 11 years old and in 6th grade.

Catlin earned her doctorate in learning technologies at Pepperdine University. Currently, Catlin is working as a blended learning coach and education consultant. Catlin has written a series of bestselling books on blended learning, which include Balance With Blended Learning, Blended Learning In Action, Power Up Blended Learning, and Blended Learning In Grades 4-12. An Interview with Kris Felicello

In this episode of The Wired Educator Podcast, I interview Kris Felicello, co-author of The Teacher and The Admin: Making Schools Better for Kids. Kris has such rich and diverse experiences in educational leadership experiences. He is brilliant and a lot of fun. You will love our conversation.

Dr. Kris Felicello has been in the field of education for over 25 years as a Teacher, Coach, Athletic Director, Assistant Principal, Principal, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, and he is currently the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services in the North Rockland Central School District in Rockland County, New York.  Kris obtained his Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership from St. John’s University in 2011.

Dr. Felicello is a leader who wants to make schools a better place for students.  He firmly believes that it is essential to build relationships and foster students’ social-emotional development to ensure a positive and productive educational experience for all students.  Throughout his career, Dr. Felicello has embraced technology as a means to improve schools, however, he cautions that technology should be utilized only when it supports positive instructional practices.

Dr. Felicello is a presenter, TEDx speaker, and co-author of the best selling educational book The Teacher and The Admin: Making Schools Better for Kids.  Kris and his writing partner Gary Armidia are the founders of The Teacher and The Admin Blog.  Kris has also served as an adjunct professor, professional development leader, and continues to be a student of the latest trends in education.

Although Dr. Felicello is passionate about his career and improving our education system, his first priority is his family.  He enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife Rebecca and 3 sons Justin (19), Andrew (17), and Scott (15).
