An Interview with Vernon Wright

In this episode, I interview with Vernon Wright. He’s an educational leader, speaker and entrepreneur.  We Have a great conversation about connection, leadership, and the importance of lifting others up.  I titled this episode the “The Zero Apology Zone because that is one o Vernon’s brands, but also because apologizing is something I personally do too much of. I really enjoyed this conversation with Vernon and I know you will too.

This episode will lift you up and leave you feeling great. Vernon has a wonderful way of connecting with others and making them feel awesome. That’s actually how I found Vernon. Do you know how some people are super stingy with their likes and hearts on social media? Well, not Vernon. He is someone who’s awesome to connect with because he understands the importance I’ve lifting people up. He makes me a better human. I love the wisdom he drops on this episode. I love the way I feel when I talk with him.

Vernon Wright is an entrepreneur, speaker, life coach, and consultant. He has over 15 years of experience in education working in large, urban school districts and has previously served in the roles of teacher, teacher leader, campus leadership team member, and district-level support.

Vernon has shared his experiences as a speaker numerous times over the years at the campus, district, regional, state levels, and beyond garnering acclaim and accolades from recognized industry leaders and colleagues. Zach Rondot is a passionate fourth-grade teacher in Troy, Michigan. His mission is to teach students the 21st-century skills, mindsets, and attributes that will help them succeed long after they leave his classroom.

In 2019, Zach was named the Troy School District Elementary Teacher of the Year and the Oakland County Elementary Teacher of the Year.

Zach is an instructor in the Master’s program of Learning, Design, and Technology at Central Michigan University. He utilizes technology to create learning opportunities that otherwise would not be possible. 

Grayson McKinney is a fifth-grade teacher from Michigan and a leader in the area of innovative teaching and learning. He has worked with learners at all levels of school from K-6 as a teacher, technology facilitator, and as a program administrator. He is a student podcaster, educational writer, and speaker on the topic of 21st-century student learning and engagement.

Together, Zach and Grayson are the authors of the newly released book, The Expert Effect: A Three-Part System to Break Down the Walls of your Classroom and Connect your Students to the World which was recently released by Edumatch Publishing.

Dr. Basil Marin is an expert in educational leadership, equity and engaging students. He received his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and speaks on many topics including the ABC’s of Equity. He has a passion for improving our educational system and inspiring students to be radical dreamers. He is on a mission. I absolutely love this conversation.

Dr. Marin holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Eastern Mennonite University and a Master’s degree in Special Education from Liberty University. Dr. Marin also holds an Educational Specialist degree in PK-12 Administration and Supervision from Old Dominion University. Additionally, Dr. Marin recently received his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Old Dominion University.

Dr. Marin is a humble and down to earth individual who is passionate about creating opportunities for all students to succeed educationally. He has a strong desire to work with at-risk youth. He firmly believes these students are our future and he is willing to provide the necessary support to see all students succeed. These students are regular human beings just like anyone else; however, these students have limited academic skill sets or untamed frustrations that often disrupt their learning process. He feels that God has given him the passion to work with at-risk youth and to show them that through education anything is possible.

An Interview with Ross Cooper and Erin Murphy

In this episode of The Wired Educator Podcast, I interview Ross Cooper and Erin Murphy about their brand new book titled Project Based Learning: Real Questions. Real Answers. How to Unpack PBL an Inquiry. If there’s one thing that teaching during a pandemic has emphasized it’s the need for inquiry and better student involvement. So many teachers have reported lack of engagement in remote learning. I think project-based learning is the future of school and a method of instruction that every educator should explore and apply. No matter where you are on the spectrum with project-based learning, you will appreciate and benefit from hearing from Ross and Erin.

Ross Cooper is currently an administrator in the Chappaqua Central School District. Previously, he was an Elementary School Principal, K-12 curriculum supervisor, Elementary Assistant Principal, and fourth grade teacher. He is an Apple Distinguished Educator and a Google Certified Innovator. As a nationally recognized leader in project based learning, he has worked with thousands of educators across the country to implement PBL, and in 2016 he coauthored Hacking Project Based Learning: 10 Easy Steps to PBL and Inquiry in the Classroom. While his day job is his first professional priority, he finds time to conduct workshops and speak on project based learning, inquiry-based learning, student-centered learning, instructional leadership, his professional experiences, and more. Erin Murphy currently has the pleasure of serving as the Supervisor of Teaching & Learning for the Humanities subjects in the East Penn School District. She is a proud graduate of Penn State University’s Professional Development School, where she was trained in inquiry-based instructional approaches. An Interview with Jennifer Gonzalez

In this episode, I interview Jennifer Gonzalez, the Editor in Chief, Founder, and Host of Cult of Pedagogy. Cult of Pedagogy is one of the most respected and followed educational resources for teachers available. Cult of Pedagogy is more than just the amazingly well written and applicable posts on her blog, it’s more than her incredible podcast; Cult of pedagogy provides books, videos and other amazing resources to help teachers around the globe, but most importantly it is a community for teachers who love teaching and want to become their best.

Jennifer and I have an amazing conversation about how Cult of Pedagogy came to be, how it has been helping teachers during this pandemic, and we look ahead at the future of education. Jennifer is absolutely brilliant, and we have a lot of fun. Buckle-up.

Jennifer Gonzalez taught middle school language arts for seven years. Half that time was spent in the greater D.C. area, the other half in southcentral Kentucky. She earned National Board Certification in 2004. Then, after having her first child, sheleft teaching to be a stay-at-home mom.

In 2008, She was hired by a local university to teach pre-service teachers. This work gave her new passion for preparing and supporting educators. When Jennifer was in the classroom, shefelt alone in her nerdiness. The teachers’ lounge was never a safe place for her emotionally or intellectually, and finding others to share her real thoughts and feelings with took a lot of work. She learned to stifle the urge to gush about some new strategy She was planning to try or to open up about a struggle She was having with her students. She came to expect that her genuine questions would be met with sarcasm.

With the creation of her site Cult of pedagogy, She hopes to create what shedid not have herself: a vibrant, encouraging, stimulating community of teachers, supporting each other toward excellence. She believes if we can reach across the limits of geography and find each other, there’s no limit to the amazing things we can accomplish.

Professional Summary:

Fresh out of a PGCE in Secondary education from the University of Warwick, Stephen taught economics for ten years in the UK and at the British International School, Cairo (BISC). Dissatisfied with the quality of teacher training that he was receiving, Stephen moved back to the UK in 1997 and founded Osiris Educational with the 30-year vision of improving the life chances of children across the world. 

Osiris had humble beginnings, with Stephen and his partner Brenda developing and delivering their own training, based off their own expertise at quality provision. Over the years, Osiris quickly grew to become the nation’s leading independent provider of teacher training, with the world’s greatest educationalists in collaboration.

During this time, Stephen worked closely with such world-renowned educationalists as Professor John Hattie, Professor Guy Claxton, Professor Carol Dweck and many others on developing and releasing now world-famous programmes for teachers in the UK, including Visible LearningPlus, the Osiris Mindsets Programme, and the Osiris Teaching Intervention.

Stop Stealing Dreams focuses on educational reform, the future of education, and what we can do about it. It addresses what is really is, should be, and where it needs to go
