Mike Johnston is a Metis middle school educator, champion slam poet, spoken word artist, poetry educator and and land-based learning specialist. He was named a National Geographic Grosvenor Teacher Fellow and is the author of You Are Poetry; an educational resource book that guides educators and students alike through activities and insights to help them see and grow the poet in themselves. This past year the book evolved into the first International #YouArePoetry Movement during poetry month, in which students and teachers from around the world connected through the poetry possibilities shared in its pages.

Dominic Helmstetter has taught Middle and High School for 16 years.  He holds a BA in Integrated Social Studies, an MA in Curriculum and Instruction as well as an MED in Education Leadership.  He began his teaching career in a diverse high needs community before later serving as Dean of Students and Principal.  He later returned to the classroom to teach Junior High before being hired to teach at Perrysburg High School, where he is part of a teaching team that regularly helps students earn among the highest passing rates in Ohio state testing.  His instruction focuses on providing hands-on learning experiences centered around promoting engaging and active learning opportunities for students.  In addition to teaching, Dominic enjoys serving on various district wide leadership teams and speaking at educational conferences designed to help boost student engagement and build classroom culture.

I am so happy I started the Wired Educator Podcast, and it is amazing to me to see it now at 150 episodes. I have no intention of stopping now. In fact, I am looking to growing the podcast in new ways.

I am thankful that you listen to the show, level-up each week, and make a positive impact in the lives of students. You are awesome, and I am not embarrassed to tell you that every week.

I have learned a lot from publishing 150 episodes and interviewing educators from all over the world. I wanted to share a condensed list of what I feel my guests have in common, and what they do that makes them stand out.

As I share what I have learned, I’ll bet many will resonate with you. I’ll bet you see yourself in a lot of these amazing qualities. I believe this because you are taking time to level-up.
